Easter weekend

Easter weekend was preceded by good Friday. Today is super Saturday since all races were crammed in on this day because no one dares to put on an event tomorrow!

Saturday agenda-race!

Too many to list but I will display those I considered:

1. rnr KY marathon
2. color me rad 5k (TN, TX, NC)
3. scholarship 5k
4. smokin tuna 5k (key west)
5. coral springs half/ women's wellness 5k
6. run like a bunny 5k
7. egg hunt du/tri

I can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With enough more local races, take out #3 and #4 as well. Since I cant do them all, I passed on the last two (been there, done that); that applies to all the 5k's left listed. Therefore, yes, I did the distance!

Couldn't ask for a better day, in terms of external conditions: cool, little wind, dry and the course was basically flat with only 1 turn around. However, for some odd reason, I didn't perform well and was lucky to break 2 hours. It was a must do on my list because it was an inaugural, including for the race director Kelly. She did so well, I forgot about this fact and I hope the carries on to subsequent events. Even the finishers medal was descent. I knew I would not place but it was important for me to do another endurance events. Due to injury, this year is an all time low for the first quarter of any year since I began dedicating that portion of a year for endurance events.

Sunday agenda-Easter!

Racing wise, this day was depressing (no races). However, this day was set aside to recognize the resurrection of our lord and saviour, Jesus Christ, our greatest gift.

I pulled out my inlines & rolled over 12 miles crosstraining. See ya'll next month!

March madness

March madness is upon us.This typically applies to NCAA basketball, where this year, the U is in! However, it also applies to me.

Saturday agenda-race!

This is the selection for today:

1. 13.1 NY
2. spartan NC/SC
3. color me rad 5k GA, MS, SC
4. manatee center 5k
5. dress for success 5k
6. support our troops 5k/10k
7. singer island 13.1
8. river walk run (5k/10k)
9. race 4 research half

You can automatically eliminate the first 3 (out of FL). Also, #7 as it was moved to April. I took the second closest event, #6. I didn't remember doing this one until I got there. Here's my famous Clint Eastwood synopsis:

The good: made the podium and top 5
The bad: didn't break 20, generic medal
The ugly: only first overall and no master, bumping me to 2nd age group instead of top master.

Sunday agenda-race!

a. spartan NC/SC
b. mad march on cancer virtual 5k/half (began 3/15-now)
c. rnr Dallas
d. mud dogs mud run
e. Kendra's kisses
f. snowbird century

You can automatically eliminate a. & c.=out of FL events. also, d and f because non-standard events. b. is not really a race but is interesting. I stuck with tried and true; e.

It was a bit hot and definitely humid. Also a bit windy but what did me in was my left shoe lace came lose immediately before I even cleared the first hill. Unfortunately for me, I allowed Humberto to pass me and failed to surpass as normally I would. I had to settle for 2nd in our age group. I love trophies but ran so poorly, I only got the age group medal. I am pleased with the size and quality of it though. My time was slightly better than yesterday, despite the more challenging course, leaving me with promise for a future race under better conditions.

St. Patrick weekend

St. Patrick weekend is upon us! Also heard the true new year and sabbath.

Saturday agenda-race!

This is my selection for today:

1. rnr marathon DC
2. shamrock scamper 5k
3. shamrock run (10 miler & 5k)
4. sunrise to run 5k
5. march for cancer 5k
6. Daniel's dash 5k
7. marco island half
8. romp thru pinecrest 5k

Since it's rare and I felt lazy (and sick), I chose the latter due to proximity. Got plenty of rest. Weather was cold (sub 60) but little wind. Not happy with my splits but by the grace of God, i managed a PR (sub 20) and made the podium. This was a low quantity, high quality race with no master title, so I had to settle for 2nd in my group and get a dinky medal. I'll take that over the alternative!

Sunday agenda-race!

These are the events on my radar:

a. LA marathon
b. Georgia marathon
c. Sarasota half
d. Amy's 5k for diabetes
e. 25.75 tri Miami
f. motivation man
g. mustang duathlon

The first 2 are automatically eliminated (out of FL). I chose the latter to support my favorite new event company, elite events and it is my first multisport of the year.

It was very cold but luckily a low wind. The long, solo drive, in addition to being sick for a week, took its toll in terms of fitness. Despite that, I managed to get 2nd in age cat and make the bakers dozen. I gotta work on my transitioning; it killed me!

Honorable mention

* I broke the Sunday losing streak with a podium finish
* Finally broke 20
* UM wins ACC & now in the hunt for championship
* Heat tie with 22 straight wins as 2nd most in NBA history

6. race for the arts 5k

3

3 seems to be the number! this is the first weekend of march (3).

Saturday agenda-race!

Here's what I considered for today (loaded with events):

1. sombrero beach run
2. run for the health of it 5k
3. s fl run for compassion
4. brevards zoo monkey madness
6. color me rad 5k (Lexington)
7. chain of lakes cycling
8. spring fest 5k/12k
9. fragile X

Eliminate the far ones-4,6,7,8. the latter was the closest but I passed on that to consider other options. I considered #1 but it was actually further than going to palm beach plus only top 2 in age categories, therefore #3 won.

I don't remember doing this one even though it was the 3rd annual plus it has been awhile since I've been to john prince park. External conditions were tough because it was quite cold (55) and very windy (-10 factor, I think). I had to wear tights, gloves & something to cover the ears. I heard the course was long but sadly, I surcame to conditions, both internal & external and failed to break 21. To add insult to injury, I got beat by the top 4 women; Inga was pleased as she finally got me and the master title to boot. By the grace of God, I got the last slot (3) in my age group. The plaques given out were nice.

Sunday agenda-race!

Not as many today but I'm do one of these:

a. chain of lakes cycling
b. autism speaks 5k
c. march for hunger 5k
d. tour de cure ride
e. iRun 5k/10k

3/3/13! I rejected a. and d. because they are non running events occurring while conventional ones are available. Even though I like b. and c., I passed on them for an inaugural event, e.

This one deserves the Clint Eastwood synopsis:

The good: knocked off almost a minute from yesterday & got a finishers medal
The bad: the time, still some wind
The ugly: lost 3 by 3 seconds, did not place (boo hoo)
