distance driving race weekend
This was distance driving race weekend for me, as all events I did took over an hour to get to.
Saturday agenda-race!
Here is what I considered for this day:
1. spartan race TN
2. 13.1 Dallas
3. inspiration spirit run
4. stride away thru hideaway
5. every boob counts 5k
6. out run hunger 5k
7. Halloween half
8. hope 4 L.Y.F.E.
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). By the grace of
God, I found a double header opportunity but had to travel far to do that.
Race 1- stride away thru hideaway
This was an hour and a half south of where I was staying (my girl). It was poorly organized, seemingly from the get go. No verbal instructions were given prior to the start and no lead cyclist to direct the race. The 2 fast kids where told to turn left at last minute while I tried to keep up with a pack. Neither I nor the runners around me knew the area so we were running blindly (including over 2 small bridges) until a certain point where somebody said 'I got 1.7 miles on my watch' so we turned around to head back from whence we came. I was aware that would be longer than a 5k. On the way back, I saw a sign (the only one during the run) indicating the race and an arrow, so I broke off from the pack I was now trailing, running solo in uncharted territory. I was beginning to fear I made a mistake until I finally saw the finish arch from the distance. I was directed to go through and being the first one to make it back, was declared the winner! Although a bit shorter than a 5k, it took me over 20 minutes; pleased with the trophy.
Race 2- inspiration spirit run
This was an hour and a half north of where I was staying (my girl). It was better organized as some instructions were given and a go cart to lead (they admitted that faster runners will outrun it). It started off nice on paved road but quickly became cross country style running along baseball fields and such. We had to do 2 small loops within a large loop of a 2 loop course. When the dust cleared, I got 2nd in age (if top 3 overall or a master slot, I would've been first) and got a medal. This was a Halloween themed race and I did dress to the occasion as a camouflage runner. By the grace of God, I won the male costume award (a nice plaque) as I was the fastest who dressed up.
Sunday agenda-race?
Here's what I found for this day:
1. biggest loser half/5k WA
2. marine corps marathon
3. cocoa beach half
4. fau homecoming 5k
5. 70.1 Miami
6. bal harbour 5k
7. wolverine 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With enough local, I passed on #3. With no swimmer, forget about #5. #4 is the only evening race listed above, and when combined with one of the remaining, another double header opportunity was possible. Unfortunately, I hadn't fully recovered from the previous day so I missed the day events.
This one I shall break down Clint style:
The good: completed the 3rd race of the weekend, finisher medal
The bad: hot & humid
The ugly: didn't place (missed last slot by 20+ seconds), many females beat me.
