Halloween transition weekend

Halloween transition weekend is upon us! On top of that, it is daylight savings weekend; luckily, we gain an hour.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the last day of the month:

1. spartan race TX
2. 5k hero run
3. spooktacular 5k
4. free and fearless 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I decided to pick tried and true, #3.

Let's break this down Clint style:

The good: finisher medals, categories, costumes that some wore
The bad: course (lots of turns), hot
The ugly: didn't place

It was Halloween; I wanted a treat (nice age award) but got a trick instead (no podium).

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the first day of the month:

1. NYC marathon
2. melanoma research 5k
3. Miami shores 5k
4. Cristina Gomez 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL); note: been there, done that. I also decided to pick tried and true, #3.

Let's break this down Eastwood style:

The good: podium, time improvement from previous day
The bad: no finisher medal, hot & humid once the sun rose, 2 loops
The ugly: 2nd age & beat by 2 females

It wasn't Halloween, but I did get a treat, podium!

distance driving race weekend

This was distance driving race weekend for me, as all events I did took over an hour to get to.

Saturday agenda-race!

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. spartan race TN
2. 13.1 Dallas
3. inspiration spirit run
4. stride away thru hideaway
5. every boob counts 5k
6. out run hunger 5k
7. Halloween half
8. hope 4 L.Y.F.E.

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). By the grace of
God, I found a double header opportunity but had to travel far to do that.

Race 1- stride away thru hideaway

This was an hour and a half south of where I was staying (my girl). It was poorly organized, seemingly from the get go. No verbal instructions were given prior to the start and no lead cyclist to direct the race. The 2 fast kids where told to turn left at last minute while I tried to keep up with a pack. Neither I nor the runners around me knew the area so we were running blindly (including over 2 small bridges) until a certain point where somebody said 'I got 1.7 miles on my watch' so we turned around to head back from whence we came. I was aware that would be longer than a 5k. On the way back, I saw a sign (the only one during the run) indicating the race and an arrow, so I broke off from the pack I was now trailing, running solo in uncharted territory. I was beginning to fear I made a mistake until I finally saw the finish arch from the distance. I was directed to go through and being the first one to make it back, was declared the winner! Although a bit shorter than a 5k, it took me over 20 minutes; pleased with the trophy.

Race 2- inspiration spirit run

This was an hour and a half north of where I was staying (my girl). It was better organized as some instructions were given and a go cart to lead (they admitted that faster runners will outrun it). It started off nice on paved road but quickly became cross country style running along baseball fields and such. We had to do 2 small loops within a large loop of a 2 loop course. When the dust cleared, I got 2nd in age (if top 3 overall or a master slot, I would've been first) and got a medal. This was a Halloween themed race and I did dress to the occasion as a camouflage runner. By the grace of God, I won the male costume award (a nice plaque) as I was the fastest who dressed up.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I found for this day:

1. biggest loser half/5k WA
2. marine corps marathon
3. cocoa beach half
4. fau homecoming 5k
5. 70.1 Miami
6. bal harbour 5k
7. wolverine 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With enough local, I passed on #3. With no swimmer, forget about #5. #4 is the only evening race listed above, and when combined with one of the remaining, another double header opportunity was possible. Unfortunately, I hadn't fully recovered from the previous day so I missed the day events.

This one I shall break down Clint style:

The good: completed the 3rd race of the weekend, finisher medal
The bad: hot & humid
The ugly: didn't place (missed last slot by 20+ seconds), many females beat me.

mid month crisis

Another mid month crisis has arrived. Thursday the actual day leading in to this weekend.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what i found:

1. spartan race AL, WA
2. the biggest loser off road WA
3. trick or trot trail 5k
4. schott 5k
5. light one's path 5k
6. ghost run 5k
7. race for the cure
8. pursuit of honor 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With enough local races, I pass on #3. I chose the latter because it seemed to be closest in proximity. Unfortunately, I didn't race today but did the course pacing a friend (he got 2nd and is in my age cat). Dog tags were given to finishers.

Sunday agenda-race?

Check out whats going on this day:

1. Toronto marathon
2. Detroit marathon
3. the biggest loser half/5k
4. Halloween half key west
5. devil dog 5k
6. buddy run 5k
7. wellington 10 miler
8. rocktoberfest 10 miler

You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL/US). With enough local races, I pass on #4. It's that time when I need to do distance races, so I skipped on 5 & 6; #4 was the furthest, so it's out. Normally, I do the latter and almost did but don't remember doing #7, so I picked that.

Due to finances, I resorted to plan B- enter the 5k but tack on mileage afterwards. Thankfully, the external conditions were decent. My internal conditions were manageable, enough that I was blessed to place and make the podium with a sub 22 (barely) time. Also, I was pleased there was a safety net (finisher medal for both events), removing some pressure from me.

Columbus day weekend

Columbus day weekend is upon us!

So far, I have discovered the following:

1. school is out but work is not, therefore I will have to work harder
2. still feels like summer (external conditions)
3. still having internal (condition) issues

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for today:

1. spartan race GA, PA
2. super hero 5k
3. AVDA race 4 hope 5k
4. parkland dash
5. burger king beach run

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I passed on the latter because I didn't feel like running on sand when there are standard events available. Of the remaining, I did the one I haven't done before, #2.

With recent struggles, it's best to sum it up Clint style:

The good: podium (1st of the month), beat all women, finisher medal
The bad: humidity, some heat, travel, 3rd age
The ugly: internal conditions, time

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for this day:

1. Chicago marathon
2. Staten island half
3. Columbus day du/tri
4. shark shuffle 5k
5. run 4 life 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). I considered #3, having done that as a relay last year. been there, done that with #4. The latter was kind of a no brainer since I am an organ donor champion at work. The one who I interface with was pleased to see me at the start line.

With recent struggles, it's best to sum it up Eastwood style:

The good: podium, position (1st age) & time better than previous day
The bad: more heat and humidity, no finishers medal
The ugly: internal conditions, time, beat by a female

First weekend in October

First weekend in October is upon us!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the first Saturday of the month:

1. spartan world championship CA
2. Atlanta 13.1
3. run to remember 5k
4. park fest 5k
5. crush games 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The last 2 are in Miami, so I passed on #3 (in hindsight, big mistake). I chose the latter as it was closest in proximity. While external conditions were ok, the internal conditions took me down (indigestion plus ankle).

So here I go, Clint style:

The good: finished first race of month (medal to all who did that)
The bad: humidity and heat, no master title
The ugly: didn't place but if felt normal, would've

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the first Sunday of the month:

1. spartan world championship CA
2. Dunn's run 5k/miler
3. kb half
4. rock n run 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). Initially, I planned on the latter (that would've been a good choice, hindsight), but elected to boost runners depot presence with #2.

Unfortunately, it was a dismal repeat of the previous but made worse with no finishers medal.

So here I go, Eastwood style:

The good: finished 2nd race of month, cooler start (73)
The bad: humidity still present as race progressed, drawbridge
The ugly: didn't place but if felt normal, would've

I feel like the dolphins, who also lost, starting off the month like they the season, losing. I came in 4th in both events, not more than 30 seconds off with a dismal time. This must not continue.
